Melee weapons are non-ranged weapons used for hand-to-hand combat. However, these weapons can also be effectively thrown to wound enemies at a distance and can be used to deflect bullets as well. They are just as prevalent as firearms in Madness Combat.

There are primarily two types of melee weapons: blade weapons and blunt weapons. Blade weapons have sharp edges (such as knives) or have sharp points (such as spears). Blunt weapons like the baton lack blades and rely more on strength to injure foes. In the game Madness: Project Nexus (Classic), blade weapons on average are more powerful, but blunt weapons are more proficient at knocking away enemies.

Types of melee weapons[]

Knives[]

A knife is a comparatively small tool or weapon consisting of a blade and handle. Knives can be used for many different purposes - including combat, food preparation, hunting, throwing, ceremony, and surgery. Knives are the most prevalent melee weapon in Madness Combat. The first knife introduced in the Madness Combat series was an iron knife in Madness Combat 1.

List of knives[]

Machetes[]

A machete is a bladed implement akin to a long knive. They are used either for agricultural purposes, combative purposes, or both. The first machete to canonically appear in Madness Combat was a megachette in Madness Combat 5.5.

List of machetes[]

Swords[]

A sword is a bladed weapon that is longer than a knife intended for slashing and stabbing. It consists of a long blade attached to a hilt. Most swords are designed for combative purposes. The first sword to appear in the Madness Combat series was Jesus' binary sword in Madness Combat 3: Avenger.

List of swords[]

Axes[]

An axe is a tool consisting of a haft with a wedge-like blade at the top end. Most axes are primarily designed for shaping and splitting wood, but some are also designed for combat. The first axe in the Madness Combat series was a regular axe used by a grunt in Madness Combat 3: Avenger.

List of axes[]

Hammers[]

A hammer is a tool consisting of a weighted head atop a long handle. They are designed to be swung onto an area in order to deliver an impact. Hammers have a wide range of applications - including driving, breaking, and shaping purposes. A claw hammer used by an agent in Madness Combat 5.5 was the first hammer to appear in Madness Combat.

List of hammers[]

Clubs[]

Clubs are simply designed weapons. They usually only consist of a short stick made of a durable material and are intended to inflict blunt-force trauma.

A mace is a type of club consisting of a heavy head in order to deliver more powerful strikes. The head of a mace can be round, spiked, or even flanged.

Clubs debuted in Madness Combat 2: Redeemer, where several batons were used by grunts.

List of clubs[]

Polearms[]

Polearms are weapons consisting of a very long haft (usually longer than the user) and have a blade, spike, or club on the striking end. The longer reach of polearms allows for a more effective reach and stronger striking power. The Auditor's spear was the first polearm to appear in the Madness Combat series - in Madness Combat 10: Abrogation.

List of polearms[]

Shields[]

Shields are items used as a mobile cover. In the Madness Combat series, dedicated shields are rarely used; however several improvised shields including corpses and obstacles are used. Hank has been seen using several corpses as shields throughout the series. The first dedicated shield to appear was the riot shield in Madness Combat 11: Expurgation.

Jesus has a power with his halo where he creates a translucent red shield that collects and deflects all bullets. This was used predominately in Madness Combat 8: Inundation.

List of shields[]

Improvised weapons[]

Improvised weapons are objects whose original use was not intented for being a weapon. These can consist of sporting equipment, tools, furniture, glass objects, as well as many other items. The first improvised melee weapon was a severed head used by Hank in Madness Combat 1.

Other weapons[]

These are melee weapons that do not fit into any of the above categories - for whatever reason. The first of these weapons to appear in Madness Combat was the fiber wire in Madness Combat 2: Redeemer.
