The Rush is the 19th and final mission in MADNESS: Project Nexus.

Briefing[]

We've finally made it to the top of the the Science Tower. Nexus City lies sprawled out beneath us, a fetid pockmark on the Nevadean landscape. It cries to be healed. And once Project Nexus has been dismantled, Christoff should be aptly equipped to reverse the damage done by Director Phobos and his Nexus Core goons.

Let's get to the Divergence Engine and end this mission for good.

Objective[]

Ascend the Tower and disable Project Nexus.

Level details[]

The level starts with Hank, Sanford, Deimos, and Christoff entering the Tower and Deimos mentioning how glad he is that he can finally finish this mission. Sanford then warns him that the Nexus Core goons could've weaponized the entire facility. Christoff agrees with Sanford. The next room contains an elevator and lockers containing weapons. Just as the quartet goes near the elevator, lamenters come in through all sides with one of them being extremely disturbed as he screams out "WHY!" various times. After they kill the group of lamenters, an odium drops from the roof exclaiming that the quartet must die. More lamenters start to spawn along with 3 more odiums after the first one dies. After the quartet kills all the odiums and lamenters, they enter the elevator. Deimos questions why the Nexus Core needs a museum to which Christoff responds that the museum is propaganda and that Phobos force him and others to do business with unsavory merchants across Nevada to acquire resources. When Sanford asks what Phobos exchanged the resources for, Christoff responds that Phobos traded everything that could start war and conflict, including soldiers, training modules, and equipment. This is why, or at least according to Sanford, is why the majority of citizens believe that Project Nexus is just some lowly cloning and battle-readiness program. When the quartet exits the elevator, they enter a room where they trip the alarm. Robot guard dogs then drop from the roof that you need to kill. The quartet then goes up a flight of stairs to a room housing 4 Dissonant G03LMs(G03LM Mk D) and Dissonance weapons where you can restock Christoff's dissonance powers. After you kill one Dissonant G03LM, the security system activates which consists of lasers you must avoid. After surviving the security system and the Dissonant G03LMs, the quartet enters a room with a cyber bandit presumably stealing technology. If he gets approached he will be frightened and then run away. They then go on a lift to which Sanford asks what will happen when they get to the top. Christoff responds that they will find the Divergence Engine. He then makes a comment that the Nexus Core did a great job with keeping everything running despite the lack of access to the new S-3LFS. Deimos then sarcastically says that the quartet is real proud of the Nexus Core. Christoff mentions that transitioning back to an operational Project Nexus would not be a problem considering that it was his life's work. They enter a very dark room with an elevator. When they get to the top, the lights turn on revealing that there are robots after the group of four. After the robots are defeated, the quartet enters a room surrounded in water. When they move towards the middle, a crusher bot named COMB-0 attempts to kill them. After COMB-0 is defeated, another crusher bot named CRUSH-R appears and tries to do the same thing. After CRUSH-R gets destroyed, a final crusher bot named PUSH-E appears. While you are fighting these three bots, robots, conduits, and robotic claws will try to attack you. The next room contains two robotic claws defending a switch that lowers the spikes granting the quartet access to the next room. The next room contains "The Nexus Charter" which according to Christoff, was passed down from the Employers themselves. He also mentions that if Phobos followed said charter, the world would not be in the current state of chaos it's in now. The room also contains a poster of Phobos that says "God Emperor" and the dead body of Phobos. Christoff then talks about his legendary battle with Phobos and that if he hadn't taken the Keystone Fragment and harnessed its power, the Nexus Core would still be polluting the world. They then switch a level that lowers the Divergence Platform. Christoff gets on it and says that he will see the others at the top. When Hank, Sanford, and Deimos get to the top via stairs, Christoff mentions that he has to activate the Divergence Engine. Sanford expresses his satisfaction of this. Just when Christoff starts putting the keys in the Divergence Engine. Church and Jorge bust in from the roof exclaiming that they're back. Sanford angrily questions why those two keep coming back for them. Jorge boastfully mocks Sanford, saying that he is afraid that he will lose this time. After Deimos mentions that all that's going to happen is that he and Sanford will make it 4-0, Jorge mentions that they stole gear from the Nexus Core and that they will put it back after their done because it's not theirs. Hank, who has never seen these two before , is confused by the situation. As Church and Jorge are warming up for their final battle, Gestalt appears behind the window. Deimos tries to warn them, but they dismiss it as just Deimos trying to interrupt them. This leads to Jorge being flattened and Church being eaten by Gestalt. Christoff says that Gestalt's goal is to consume The Other Place and become a God-Realm. Hank then challenges the Gestalt.

Boss Fight[]

Phase 1[]

In phase 1 of Gestalt's fight, he has grey corpus bars, which means that you can't damage him in almost anyway. Christoff says the only way to beat him is to direct the Divergence Engine to target Gestalt, or in Deimos words, banish him to The Other Place. You the have to connect the plugs to make the engine shoot Gestalt, which makes him vulnerable. Gestalt can do various actions, including causing debris to fall, shoving his fingers in the ground to attack you, and summoning fire. You must plug in the engine 3 times in total before Christoff blasts Gestalt away. However all this does is mutate Gestalt to give him wings.

Phase 2[]

In phase 2, 3 of his corpus bars are able to be destroyed by shooting rockets at him. Gestalt will occasionally shoot fire balls and lasers from his mouth and dissonance orbs from his hands while he moves around. Deimos will start to complain that Christoff won't help them to which he responds that he's most likely the only one who can work with the Divergence Engine. When Gestalt, now called Apothic Gestalt, has one corpus left, he will occasionally come up close to breath fire on you. Christoff then fires the Divergence Engine which ground Gestalt. He then mentions that he must try to extract the S-3LFS from Gestalt to finish the creature off. Just before they do that, an orb appears that summons Director Phobos. He greets them and thanks them for releasing him from The Other Place. Christoff tells him to go back to where he came from, to which Phobos denies claiming that he will take this world back. Phobos then asks if Christoff will sacrifice Sanford and Deimos to destroy him, just like how back in the first game Christoff killed so many to get to him, and if he's ready for the cost. After Christoff says that a world without him is a worth any cost, Phobos says that he will bond with Project Gestalt and join the ranks of the Employers. Phobos then prepares to attack the trio as he claims that he is a god.

Phase 3[]

Hank, Sanford, and Deimos now have to fight Phobos inside a ring of fire. Throughout the fight, Phobos will teleport around the room to attack the player while Christoff summons weapons to use. When Phobos loses his first corpus, he will teleport out of the ring and have damned souls attack you. If he loses his second corpus, he will teleport above the player to show them the raw power of The Other Place by throwing debris at them and summoning souls that the player must kill. After killing all the souls, Phobos conjures a sword and then proceeds to dash around the ring knocking down anyone that comes into contact with him. He will then use the sword to shoot souls at the player and use it as a bey blade. He will also create an electric discharge around him if someone comes too close to him. After losing his third corpus bar, Phobos will mention that he will ascend and apologizes that the trio won't survive long enough to see it. He then throws more debris at you along with occasionally slamming his sword into the ground. He will summon more souls and after you kill those souls, he once again dashes around the ring with his sword. After losing his fourth corpus bar, he will take Christoff's Keystone Fragment and use it become faster and more powerful. He will also occasionally teleport outside the ring to summon homing souls. When Phobos loses his fifth corpus bar, he repeat the same process he does when he lost his third corpus bar, but he will now shoot dissonant orbs at the player as well. After the player kills Phobos, Christoff attempts to send Phobos back to The Other Place, but before, he claims that he has the perfect vessel and that will merge The Other Place with Project Gestalt and have his godhood. The player when then have to use Sanford's c4 to blow up Gestalt's armor and kill him so Phobos can't use it as a vessel.

ENDING: Hank's betrayal

After banishing Phobos, Christoff says that Phobos and Project Gestalt gone, they will never bother this place again. He also claims that the mission is complete and that he can start trying to rebirth Project Nexus into the salvation the city needs in order to survive. But before he could explain his plan, Hank shoots him with a rocket. He then claims that it's time to destroy Project Nexus, as this was their mission from the start. This takes Sanford and Deimos aback as Deimos questions what he just did, to which Hank responds that Christoff wouldn't stop talking so he shut him up. Sanford is furious saying that they needed Christoff. Hank disagrees and said that all they needed to do is to finish the mission. Sanford tries to reason with Hank by saying that Christoff could fix the project and could save them without compromising the mission. Hank, however, doesn't want to listen to what he is saying, he just wants to follow the mission verbatim and questions why they are still making what he did a big issue. Deimos says that he doesn't care about what Hank thinks about the mission, he just doesn't want to blow the world up. Hank objects saying that Deimos is making this a problem. Deimos then tries to reason with Hank saying that he doesn't have to end it this way. Hank then replies that he hoped it would end up with him killing the two. Sanford and Deimos then have to fight Hank who uses the vents to get to vantage points to shoot the now duo. Throughout the battle Hank will mention stuff like how this fight is pointless and that the two don't stand a chance as he killed a god. After Hank gets killed, Deimos says that Hank should've listened to them. As the two leave the tower, Deimos tries to talk Sanford into coming up with a plan to fix Project Nexus, but Sanford says that they can't fix it and its over.

If Sanford and Deimos die, Hank says "Thanks for the laugh, boys." and the boss fight restarts.
